Historical and Biblical Evidence

The Truth About Sabbath and how it was changed

📖 The Truth About the Sabbath and How It Was Changed

1. God’s Command Never Changed

“Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy… the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD your God.”
— Exodus 20:8–11, Deuteronomy 5:12–15

  • The Sabbath is the 7th day — Saturday, not Sunday.

  • Nowhere in Scripture does God change this commandment.

2. Early Christians Still Honored the Sabbath

  • For centuries after Christ, believers continued to worship and rest on the 7th-day Sabbath.

  • Some gathered on Sunday to celebrate the Resurrection, but this never replaced the Sabbath.

3. When the Change Happened

  • In A.D. 321, Emperor Constantine declared Sunday the official day of rest in the Roman Empire.

  • Later, the Roman Catholic Church adopted and enforced this change, calling Sunday the “Lord’s Day.”

4. What the Catholic Catechism Did

The Church’s own writings show these changes:

  • Removed the 2nd Commandment: “Do not make idols or graven images”

  • Changed the 4th Commandment: from “Remember the Sabbath” → to “Keep holy the Lord’s Day (Sunday)”

  • Split the 10th Commandment into two, to keep the number at 10:

    • “Do not covet your neighbor’s wife”

    • “Do not covet your neighbor’s goods”

⚖️ Side-by-Side Comparison

📜 The Biblical Ten Commandments (Exodus 20, KJV)

  1. Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

  2. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image.

  3. Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.

  4. Remember the Sabbath Day, to keep it holy.

  5. Honor thy father and thy mother.

  6. Thou shalt not kill.

  7. Thou shalt not commit adultery.

  8. Thou shalt not steal.

  9. Thou shalt not bear false witness.

  10. Thou shalt not covet.

✝️ The Roman Catholic Version (Catechism)

  1. I am the Lord thy God. Thou shalt not have strange gods before me.

  2. (Graven images removed)

  3. Remember to keep holy the Lord’s Day.

  4. Honor thy father and mother.

  5. Thou shalt not kill.

  6. Thou shalt not commit adultery.

  7. Thou shalt not steal.

  8. Thou shalt not bear false witness.

  9. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s wife.

  10. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s goods.

🔥 The Bottom Line

God’s Word never changed — the Sabbath is still the 7th day.
It was Rome, not Scripture, that changed the commandment.
The truth is being restored. It’s time to remember what God said:

“The seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD your God.” (Ex. 20:10)
